Why we do what we do
Our Story
Making bikes accessible for all
OneBike is a Lightfoot Initiative project dedicated to making biking accessible for everyone in the Whakatipu. We rescue, repair, and re-home pre-loved bicycles, giving individuals and families the freedom and independence that comes with having a bike. Alongside refurbishing bikes, we teach essential riding and maintenance skills, reduce waste by salvaging and recycling parts, and help build a safer, healthier and more sustainable transport network for our region.
From humble beginnings in a borrowed garage, OneBike has grown into a fast-moving, community-focused effort shaped by people who believe in the transformative power of bicycles to strengthen neighbourhoods and improve wellbeing. With your support, we can keep the wheels turning. Help us rescue more bikes and get more people riding. Every contribution helps create a greener future, one bike at a time.
The Lightfoot Initiative
The Lightfoot Initiative is a community-focused organisation dedicated to transforming how people move in the Whakatipu area. Our core mission is to advocate for and support safe, accessible, and sustainable cycling and active transport options for everyone.
Lightfoot aims to reduce reliance on car travel, alleviate congestion, and lower carbon emissions by inspiring a shift in thinking about local transportation. We work towards a future where active and shared travel is the preferred choice, fostering healthier, more connected, and environmentally responsible communities.
